Advisor & Communication Officer
Katherine is a Barrister at newly established Sangro Chambers. She was previously a Litigation Partner in the law firm Anthony Harper. She is an experienced lawyer, with expertise in governance issues, commercial, regulatory and public law disputes, health law and the management of health and safety incidents (including prosecutions).
Katherine has a mix of private and public sector experience. In relation to the public sector, she worked at the heart of central government, having been an advisor in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, advising two Prime Ministers (2007-2010). She understands the policy development process and the implementation of policy into law in the political system.
In 2011 to 2014 Katherine worked for the New Zealand Police. She prepared for and represented Police at the Pike River Royal Commission of Inquiry. Katherine then became a member of the Police Executive, with responsibilities for Policy, Performance, and Legal.
In 2014 Katherine and her Sicilian husband moved from Wellington to Auckland where Katherine took up an Executive role at Auckland Council, leading a large legal team and being responsible for the performance of the legal and risk functions within Council.
Katherine returned to private legal practice in early 2017, joining the Anthony Harper partnership.
Katherine is a member of the Human Rights Review Tribunal, which determines human rights, privacy and health, and disability disputes.
Katherine and her husband (Rosario) regularly return to Siracusa, where they met, a place they are very attached to.
