Michele Passarello is well-known chef and restaurateur on the Kāpiti Coast of New Zealand. He was born in Milan but grew up in Agrigento, Sicily. He moved back to Milan to study and started his career in advertising. Michele has always been passionate about food and hospitality. In 2000 he opened his first business, a successful Bed and Breakfast in his hometown. He continued to work in the advertising and tourism industry before moving to New Zealand in 2006. Since then, he has been based on the Kāpiti Coast and focussed his energies on promoting Italian culture and cuisine to a New Zealand audience, first as a chef and now as a restaurateur. His award-winning Mediterranean-inspired restaurant Waimea, was a local favourite and featured several times in Cuisine Magazine and Good Food Guide. He has a passion for ensuring healthy options are available for kids. He gained the only Heart Foundation Tick in the region for his innovative kids’ menu, developed with his 9-year-old son. Michele is bringing more of a Sicilian influence to his latest venture Passo. His authentic house-made pizza and pasta restaurant pairs traditional and modern techniques with great Italian wine in a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant will showcase the best Italian products in its menu and deli.
